Life through the Spirit

One of my all time favorite passages…

Romans 8:5-9

5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man[a] is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7the sinful mind[b] is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. 9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ

1) What would your mind say about your spiritual condition?

2) Have you settled in your mind who is in control?

Spirit of Christ, reveal in me what you desire. Teach and remind me that life is all for you!

One Response to Life through the Spirit

  1. Jamie S says:

While I think I understand the point of your questions, I think if we are not careful we will miss the point of the passage which you quote. In context Paul is not necessarily addressing believers who wrestle with sin for he makes his on case for that in chapter 7. But in context Paul is addressing the two natures of lost flesh and possession of the saving Spirit. Now there is little doubt Paul experienced great pain at the sin he saw in his life but the sin he committed was not his desire, on the contrary his desire was for the things of God. So that this paradox took him to God pleading to be free from “this body of death” leading him to declare in 8:1 “there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus”
