Holy Spirit in Old Testament

When we look at the person and work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament two things come to interest that show His power and function.  First creation and second redemption.

Creation:
It all starts up front with Gen 1:2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

We see that the Spirit produces substance, form, light, order, something out of nothing.

Redemption:
The Holy spirit empowers the redemptive process in the Old Testament.  We see him anoint persons such as Moses, Sampson, Gideon and others priests, prophets, kings, and judges to perform functions of God.

key points:
In the OT just because a person was anointed by the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean they are believers or born of the Spirit (aka regenerate).   See Saul & Balaam.

Not every believer was anointed with the gift in the OT.  It was limited.  Moses’s 70.
